Goal Tracking - How did I do for January??
What Did I learn from my first trip in 2024?
Well, even though I told you that it’s really not hard to travel while carnivore, I will admit that for the last 4 or 5 days my body was not very happy. Typically when I travel for clients, I only travel 4-6 days. This trip was longer and I think the oils did catch up to me. I also ate more cheese than I typically do, but to be fair, I always eat more cheese when I travel. I don’t know why that is, but when I’m in a restaurant and the only good option is the hamburger patties, yes, I’m ordering cheese.
At any rate, as I said in my previous article, I learned to not waste any energy on fretting over what the chefs or cooks do in the kitchen. it’s out of my control and I don’t want to be a pain in the ass to the server or in front of my clients. I roll with it. What I think is interesting is that I learned how many days my body will go and deal with the processed oils. Apparently, around day 7 my body had enough and I have had diarrhea ever since. (SORRY if this is TMI).
So what is the lesson? I need to travel with my own meals and work them into my day somehow. It is a pain to travel with a cooler, but I think it’s the way I need to go.
My brother started carnivore
Well, maybe it’s been more ketovore at first but now he’s switching over completely. I think I already told you that he hid it from me the first couple of weeks because it was something he said he could “never do”. After all, he’s not a fan of meat.
He was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes and this is after he’s had several long battles regarding strokes and heart failure (his heart creates blood clots). We call him “cucaracha” because nothing can kill this man. Well, he wasn’t about to let T2 take him down either and he knew what I was doing. He started meat and then some vegetables and berries, but he realized it wasn’t making much of a dent in his blood sugar. So, now he’s embraced carnivore. Dirty, because he loves his cheese, but no carbs including any veggies or fruit is where he is at and he is LOVING IT!!
On my trip home I stopped in and visited him and he wanted me to show him how to cook a steak. So, I stopped at the store and bought some steaks and then did a pan fry. It’s all he had to work with. He felt like it was way too much to eat, but he liked it. When we were packing up the dinner, I told him I would take the rest of mine and eat it cold for dinner the following day. And that I loved cold steak now probably more than hot. That was met with absolute skepticism, just like being carnivore, but on my way home he texted me saying he ate the cold steak for breakfast and absolutely loved it.
I’m so proud of my brother, for not only working to improve his life but for leaping to radically change his approach even when he thought I was off my rocker! Oh - and at the one-month mark he had a meeting with his Nutritionist and she was amazed at his numbers. He only told her he was keto, as I warned him the battle up front was not worth going through. To wait until he’s cured himself and THEN tell them how he did it. But she was truly ecstatic over his results.
WIN!!
Goal Tracking Results for January 2024
Well….I don’t know about you, but I started off with a bang and then shit fell apart when I went on the road. That’s definitely not an excuse, because there are areas where I fell down that I could have easily done while traveling. I just chose not to prioritize my time.
Let me give you an example. In the below picture, you can see that I kept up with my bible study and prayer every morning. But not the meditation and going over my goals and vision board. Obviously, I can’t take my vision board with me, but I could have taken a picture of it to look at it. And I know my goals by heart, so why didn’t I choose to make them front and center?
Another area that I let slide that I didn’t need to was getting sun and my activities. I could easily stretch and do exercises in my room or walk on the treadmill at the hotels. There were many days when I was in meetings from early to late, but there were other days when I could have chosen to go outside for 10 minutes to get my sun.
Where I did do well? I lived up to my values and my evening routine easily. And then my work habits, well, I love working so I don’t guess I will ever fail at those! So it comes down to making choices, which we all know. And even though I am hugely motivated this year to crush my personal and professional goals, I still didn’t make time for the right habits on the day-to-day while I was traveling.
That’s a big lesson for me. I made the choice!
How did you do? What worked in January and what didn’t?
Share the flame!
