There’s been a lot of buzz on froot loops or lucky charms being a newly added item on the food pyramid put out by the USDA. Well, I’m happy to report that is false. Somehow this is a message that went viral with no truth behind it. Heck I didn’t even know there wasn’t even such a thing as a food pyramid any longer.
Did you?
Now we have my plate, which is divided up into food categories. Which feels a little loose when it comes to what goes in each category and how much. Not that anyone really pays attention to any of it, since we as a human race do whatever the hell we want.
When I went on the myplate.gov site and looked at what they wrote for protein, they did acknowledge protein provides essential nutrients however they push an increased amount of beans, legumes, and soy products for fiber and vitamins. They also state that your body needs unsaturated fats.
Oh, good golly.
To add insult to injury, most doctors have no clue about nutrition. Most are just as fat and out of shape as we are. Touting to know what’s best for us nutritionally, but probably fighting the same shame and guilt demons we do (or did) for eating that extra piece of cake or Twinkie.
Side story: I was recently in the hospital for my appendix and the “nutritionist” came in to talk about my food order for the following morning and afternoon. I asked to have eggs and bacon for both meals. Her reply was “that’s it?”. I said yes, that’s all. She then looked at me and said, “You don’t have enough protein, you need protein to heal.” I just chuckled thinking she was messing with me.
She wasn’t. She was serious. Finally, I looked at her and said, “Honey, eggs and bacon is all protein. How much more protein do you want me to eat?” I have to believe she wasn’t actually a nutritionist. Please, Lord, she wasn’t really a nutritionist was she? How many people does she see in a day? How is she helping those with diabetes? Shudder the thought!
I thought I would do a round-up of doctors I listen to regarding what we should eat. First, all of these doctors believe that fatty meats are the most nutrient-dense foods on earth. There’s video after story after short on the internet showing vegans eating their first piece of meat after years of being vegan. Almost all of them say it was like a light went on in their body and brain. They were starving for nutrients - including their brain.
Dr. Kiltz has a great article on his site showing the carnivore food pyramid. But what I really like in this article is how he shows the loaded essential nutrients that are found ONLY IN MEAT!
Not only do you get all of these amazing nutrients that get absorbed almost immediately into your system, which makes them immediately bioavailable, but your brain can’t function without enough good fat. Which is animal fat - saturated fat. It’s almost like the government wants us to be unhealthy and not have enough brain cells to think for ourselves! Here is Dr. Kiltz’s article on saturated fat.
Dr. Chaffee has a great video discussing “The Corruption of our Nutritional and Medical Guidelines”. In this video, he discusses cultures that have lived on meat-based diets and how these populations don’t have diseases of the west. He also discusses what is missing nutrient-wise when eating plant or processed food diets.
For example, did you know that 45% of the population can’t turn beta keratin into retinol (vitamin A) we need that from the foods we eat - PROTEIN. Plant-based diets are missing B12, D3, K2, Retinol (A), DHA and EPA. Essential omega 3’s that you can’t get from plants.
In this video, Dr. Berry talks about the Tufts University study on food and their food compass. This is where the shitty cereal comes into play. The study ranks Frosted Mini Wheats higher than a whole egg fried in butter. Dr. Berry states that eggs and butter together are literally a superfood. Packed with amino acids, fatty acids, vitamins, and minerals that everyone needs. All in a tidy little package. This video is short, but a great watch.
All of these doctors have many videos and articles regarding the basics of carnivore, but they go into the why of it and how eating this nutrient-dense way will repair your body.
I’m one of many who can attest to this. This way of eating has been life-altering for me. And it’s not about the weight, because while I have lost 50 lbs the main success factor has been that I’m pain-free, full of energy, clear-headed, and don’t waste hours every day in the cycle of shame and guilt because I can’t seem to get through the day without eating something bad for me. (enter desserts and salty treats)
Understanding what food actually does to your body is where I believe everyone should start on their quest. There are so many different doctor opinions out there on diet. Start with the three listed above. But then go to Dr. Sean Baker (especially if you are an athlete - Dr. Chaffee played professional Rugby in NZ he is a good option too if you are an athlete), Dr. Andrew Huberman (he doesn’t talk about carnivore, but he has amazing input on health that I enjoy), and Dr. Boz discusses Keto and chronic illnesses.
Unfortunately, whether it’s the USDA, our doctors or the pharmaceutical industry, you have to do your own research on what will work for you. I’ve done every way of eating to heal my body. I continually got worse with inflammation, disease, and pain. Medications to treat my Ehlers Danlos made me feel like a zombie, even though it did help with the pain. But, to me, it wasn’t worth it. You have to test and try for yourself what works.
If you read My Journey stories Part 1 and Part 2, you will see that I only intended to eat this way for 90 days to give my body a reset. You can do that too.
You can do anything for 90 days!!
By the way, yesterday November 7th was my one-year anniversary. There’s no looking back for me. Nothing could taste as good as I feel.
